↘Forestry
Since ,the reform of Cameroon’s forestry law, the forest management of Grumcam's concessions has been structured by management plans validated by the concerned authorities. These management plans correspond to several levels of commitment: conservation of the ecosystem and biodiversity, improvement of the position in society of workers and their families, and respect for local populations and traditional forest customs. Through these same management plans, the company has gained knowledge of forest management that favours rational, methodical harvesting, centred on the concept of low impact.
We strive to maintain a scientific approach through ongoing investment in our equipment and human resources:
— Renewal of the company’s fleet of environmentally and technologically more efficient machines.
— Ambitious, regular training programs to implement techniques that are increasingly specific to our forests and our needs.
— Close collaboration with Cameroon’s local administrative authorities to ensure ongoing sharing of information on the use of our concessions, and compliance with standards and legality.
— Development of management activities complementary to our operations, aimed at monitoring and ensuring the proper execution of work, the traceability of our timber, the surveillance of our concessions and the safety of our workers in the field.
↘Sawmill
The sawmill operates on 2 main lines, plus one horizontal band sawmill and one reworking sawmill. The main species processed are sapele and ayous. The sawmill has a drying potential of 15 chambers of 110 m3 each. This sawmill produces around 20,000 m3 of dried per year, of which 70% ayous. It has gained years of know-how and made investments, enabling it to optimize cutting and enhancement of the raw material. The production of sawn timber at the Grumcam sawmill provides stable employment and a high level of know-how to 230 workers from the local populations of our FMUs.Total annual production of sawn timber varies between 28,000 m3 and 32,000 m3.
